Outside the Dublin area in counties Kildare, Meath and Wicklow there are quite a number of Golf Courses, some member owned and quite a number privately owned. In Kildare there are about 20 golf courses that include the world famouos K Club at Straffan, where the Ryder Cup was held in 2006. Other prestigious golf courses in this area include Carton Golf & Country Club, Kilkea Castle and Highfield Golf & Country Club.
In Co. Meath there are about 12 golf courses and a few of the more recent additions are noteworthy including Headford and Knightsbrook, both privately owned and both built on historic estates. In Co. Wicklow the most famous golf courses there are Druid's Glen, Powerscourt, the European Club and Coollattin (built on the Fitzwilliam Estate but member owned).
